PETRA AND ENVY

Earth receives a message from an alien planet that has been continuously thought to have the ability to harbor life. Some believed first-time alien contact would involve learning each other's languages and asking for a trade of supplies. However, just a decade later, these same aliens were seen upgrading the Earth's resources and using their universal intelligence to improve life everywhere. This harmony among humans and the new aliens would have lasted much longer if it were not for a greedy, vengeful scientist who should have used his PhD elsewhere.
